Financial Advisors Discuss Trends, Strategy for Familial Wealth Planning

LPL Financial

Approximately 150 of LPL Financial’s top wealth managers recently gathered at the prestigious Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania for LPL’s 2018 Private Wealth Symposium. Looking to deepen their expertise in supporting high-net-worth clientele, attending advisors heard from top academics and experts in the financial industry on contemporary financial planning, investing and practice management strategies for addressing the complex needs of high-net-worth investors.

“It was an incredible conference. The location elevated expectations and set the tone that we’re here to learn. We heard from five elite professors who absolutely pushed the audience to think differently about the emerging trends and ideas used by sophisticated practitioners,” said Jason Crawford, LPL senior vice president.

This year’s central theme focused on the complexities of familial wealth. Both general and breakout sessions covered topics such as emerging trends in the preferences of successful families, the concept of a family balance sheet and technical topics such as trust modification. A goal of the conference was to create and foster a community of like-minded advisors who share similar problems and issues.

Sally Ng, managing partner of The Wealth Consulting Group based in Walnut Creek, Calif., was impressed with the caliber of advisors who attended the conference. ”They’re serious about their business and are eager to learn and collaborate, so the networking among peers was fabulous.  The venue at the Wharton Business School this year made the PWS a ‘must attend’ conference,” Ng said.

“LPL has seen great success with our high-net-worth offering, in part by making resources scalable to advisors who want to serve wealthy clients,” Crawford said. “Our support model serves as a conduit to many of the resources that advisors need to succeed in the high-net-worth space including consulting expertise and access to advanced planning capabilities, trust services, tailored investment research, specialized technology and advanced performance-reporting capabilities.”
