LPL Financial Announces 2017 National Merit Scholarship Honorees

LPL Financial is proud to award the 2017 LPL National Merit Scholarship to nine rising college students. The $1,000 renewable scholarships are given annually to college-bound children of full-time LPL employees and LPL advisors. In addition, LPL awards scholarships to three students that are involved with charity partner organizations in each of LPL’s office locations.

Recipients include:

  • Cecelia Brower, Carnegie Mellon University
  • Keilah Fok, University of Alabama Huntsville
  • McKenna Haire, Princeton University
  • Jason Kung, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Stephen Shields, Texas A&M University
  • Zykkiah Silver, Appalachian State University
  • Nhat Tran, University of California San Diego
  • Damen Wilson, Purdue University

LPL employee Michael G. Haire, said, “Our family is extremely grateful for the contribution to McKenna’s education.  She has worked hard for this opportunity, and our entire family has invested in her future to get to this point. To have this kind of recognition and support from LPL demonstrates the value the firm places on its employees and the financial futures of students.”

Launched in 2012, the LPL Financial National Merit Scholarship program is administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting academically talented high school students with their pursuit of higher education. Sponsored by the LPL Foundation, scholarship honorees are selected based on their academic and leadership achievements.

They take pride in knowing that they have helped change lives,” said Tesha Young, director of corporate partnerships, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego.  “When LPL awarded one of our club members a scholarship, it gave her the confidence to pursue her educational dreams while lessening the financial burden of obtaining her degree.  We thank LPL for their support and endless dedication to our club members.”
